If using sandbags as your barrier of choice, try this method for better protection.
1) Place plastic sheeting in front of the door.
2) Fasten plastic to door with water resistant tape.
3) Drape the plastic down and forward to allow placement of sandbags.
4) Tightly stack sandbags (staggered) on the plastic and against the door. Extend the bags beyond both sides.

Be creative but thoughtful. Suggested barrier below:

Use 2x8 or 2x10 PVC panels

Painted on both side with BIN Primer. (2 Coats over knots, 2 Coats over entire board and 2 Finnish Coats). Let dry as long as possible. If you must install quickly, remove ASAP after flooding.

Use U or L channels to slide panels into place.

Use gaskets/caulking between boards to make water tight.

Bottom panel must be on a level surface and sealed.

Compress the panels downward.
